Give it to me quick; give it to me good; give it to me cheap: pick 2

Give it to me quick; give it to me good; give it to me cheap: pick 2

As a marketing consultancy (as any small business, especially a service business), I often get questions about price. And I can completely understand – when you can get outsourced solutions from India, or Macedonia or Malaysia for fractions of the price, why would you spend significantly more?

It comes down the old triangle of time (or service), quality and price. It’s an exercise that I often take companies through as part of their brand positioning work. Do you want to be known for great service and quality? You won’t be the cheapest on the market. If you’re known for great service and low prices, you might have to sacrifice some quality. You can’t be all things to all people. Great service and high quality come at a cost… So if you want to cut costs, something has to give.

At Atomic Tangerine, we focus on service and quality. In fact, I absolutely don’t and won’t compromise the quality of the work we provide. The only variable for us is time. I can give you a piece of work that is of very high quality in a very short amount of time, but it won’t come cheap: I will have had to throw resources at it, potentially pushed out other projects and killed myself to deliver. That has a price tag.

So what should you be looking for if you get a very cheap quote? Firstly, look at the quality of their work – perhaps ask for testimonials or case studies. Did they complete the work on time? Did the budget change mid-project? How successful was it?

And what should you do if you receive a quote from a supplier who you know will do great work, but is more expensive than you anticipated? Talk to them! Find out whether you can stage your project, or whether they have other options to spread the investment.

I’m a big believer in the old adage that you get what you pay for. Cheap services or products are not a great investment. And when you’re marketing a business, you need to think about the return on every dollar you invest.

Talk to us here at Atomic Tangerine if you are ready to invest in growing your business. We love working with clients to find the optimal solution for their situation and budget!
